Mars Edit hits 2.0. If you’re a Mac totting blogger then Daniel Jalkut’s powerful weblog publishing application might be your ticket to posting nirvana. Sadly, it will not yet allow you to channel Joyce, or improve your sexual prowess, but I have high hopes for 3.0.

Do you use it or other blogging publishing tools to publish your entries? I’m looking for some sorts of it that supports tags in Wordpress.
I tend to do one of three things Alfred. I either use the Wordpress post area, use Textmate’s blogging bundle, or write it in some other word processing type app and move it to Wordpress. So the short answer is no. I don’t use a weblog publish tool, though maybe Textmate counts.
I have tried Mars Edit though, and ecto from Adriaan Tijsseling, a similar Mac app worth checking out (give the new alpha version a try.) I honestly think they’re very useful, but I can never seem to integrate them into my writing flow. It’s just a case of old habits dying hard. If I took the time to use one of them consistently I’m sure it’d stick.
As for tags, I’m not exactly sure. Probably best to head to the forums and see. I use the Ultimate Tagging Warrior, and I believe Mars Edit and ecto do not support this plugin out of the box, but there are ways to hook the plugin into them.
You may also want to keep in mind that when Wordpress version 2.3 comes out soon (end of September?) it will support tagging. I have little doubt that each of these programs will end up supporting this feature.
My advice would be to download a demo of each application, give them a try, and if you really like one consider buying it because they are very useful, and I’m sure they’ll support the new WP tag feature. You could also shoot each of the authors a question about their future plans for WP tags. They’re both responsive and pleasant fellows from what I’ve seen.
Yes, both Mars Edit and ecto seem to be quite nice as I have tested them for a few minutes. I personally don’t like the writing area in Wordpress, and I have suffered from the problem that the formatting of the entries lost when I edited them, and it’s really frustrating.
I’m sure I’ll use one of them when Wordpress 2.3 comes out and they support tagging. Thank you for the information by the way!
No problems Alfred. Not sure if you’re already doing this, but try not using the visual editor when writing from the Wordpress post area. You can toggle it on and off from the “Users/YourProfile” section. I think it’s easier, and avoids complications, if you turn this feature off.
