The Three Guiding Principles of My Internet Surfing
I’m beginning to come to terms with my attachment to the Internet. (( For the sake of simplicity let’s call the Internet everything that occurs when you are using the Internet: cultural, biological, informational, the whole bean burrito.)) Here’s what I’ve found to be my three keys to a successful long term relationship with the Great and Powerful Beast:
Patience, an Open Mind, Curiosity. You will always find what you are looking for. It may take longer than you want. It may not always look like what you had in mine. But when you find it, keep looking. You’ll find it again, but different.
I’ve gotten good at releasing any expectations I might have concerning the Internet and my time using it. Even if it’s for some purely utilitarian search, say, the book you read as a kid, the one about the purple sausage and its evil step sister. I might. I might not. But if I do, it’s worth my time to keep going.
These three principles can be applied to anything really. Be patient. You will always get what you’re looking for. Be open minded. It might not look exactly as you expected, or want. And be curious. When you get it, don’t stop. Keep looking, keep creating, keep living, keep clicking.
