The Story of Stuff Video
No one likes a Debbie Downer. So have a great Christmas, and buy till your wallet bleeds, if that’s what makes you happy, but it’s good practice to be aware of the actual process and implications of your actions. (( I would suggest rather than buying, making yourself, and don’t transfer your ability to give Joy to a distant corporation. In other words, when you buy something for someone the Joy you’re giving is primarily the object itself. It’s not the thought, or the action. If this were the case then go ahead and wrap up empty boxes in pretty candy cane wrapping and see how that goes over. This subtle renouncement of our creative power to manufacture our own joy and share it on our own terms is a dangerous process. It creates a dependancy on outside factors to fuel internal and spiritual well being, but, you know, no one likes a Debbie Downer, so fill up the shopping cart if that’s what makes you happy, but therein lies my point.))
Thus, I share The Story of Stuff, a great little video that “exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world.” If you watch one thing this week I’d suggest it be this video. Clever, heartbreaking, and informative.
Here’s a teaser for the twenty minute version of the video, which you can watch on the Story of Stuff site.
