A Comparative List of Hilary Clinton and the Statue of Liberty
At the end of her non-concession speech Tuesday night Ms. Clinton referenced the Statue of Liberty. Here’s the quote:
Lady Liberty’s presence and the towers’ absence are a constant reminder that here in America we are resilient, we are courageous, we embrace all of our people, and that, when we face our challenges together, there is no barrier we can’t overcome, no dream we can’t realize, nothing we can’t do if we just start acting like Americans again.
Per usual, how you read something depends a great deal on where you’re coming from, but I couldn’t help hear Ms. Clinton favorably comparing herself to the Statue of Liberty, and this got me to thinking of the other ways in which the two are comparable.
So I sat down with pen and pad for a few moments and jotted down some similarities.
- 01: Both have been created out of hard metal to withstand a hostile environment 1
- 02: Both lack an authentic soul
- 03: Both live on little islands where they will always be the biggest attraction
- 04: Both stand at a distance and enjoy large crowds marveling at the wonder of them
- 05: Neither can speak the words “lost”, “defeat”, or “concede”
- 06: You must pay a price in order to meet them
- 07: And it will always be on their terms
- Okay, so, Ms. Liberty is made of copper which is probably considered one of the softer metals, but you take liberties with lists like these. ↩
